Hello beauties! I’m so excited to be back to write this post for you. I’ve been struggling to find the time and energy to write on here this semester. But I wanted to write a post today the start of my blog. So many people ask me about my blog, how I started it, why I started it, and that’s what I am going to share with you!
A year ago I was a totally different person! I will spare you the details, but I was hopeless. And it wasn’t until I put myself in a position of vulnerability and one that I could potentially fail at, that my life changed. Now, when I feel like I am in a rut, I’m reminded that if you don’t change anything–nothing changes. And as simple as it seems, it’s the truth. The bigger the change you want to see, the more you have to risk! I’m learning this more and more every day.
I had always dreamed of having a platform of some sort to use to speak and to share, but I was always held back by the fear of other people’s opinions, like a lot of us are. In a moment of bravery I bought the URL “rachelfrom.com”, and designed my first blog layout. I started my blog at the perfect time, I had been through enough that risking a bit of judgement didn’t phase me. When I started this platform, I didn’t know if it would be for a week, a month, or how long I would keep up with it. I didn’t think anyone would read it, and I definitely didn’t anticipate the support my friends and family gave it.
I wish I could say it’s “taken off” and that it’s putting me through college or supporting my shopping, but the reality is is that this is a project of passion. I didn’t set out to turn this into anything BIG, what I started with was a dream to share the stories of people by using their style as an avenue to do so. That very dream launched my Style Story series, that are some of my most popular posts! I was humbled by how many of my friends were willing to participate in these posts.
Even though I didn’t go into blogging with any intention of seeking opportunity, it managed to find me! After starting my blog huge opportunities opened up and I was even more humbled by it. I got to star in a short film that releases in November, I got to write for a magazine, and was a style editor for another. More than that, it’s opened so many friendships. People have reached out to me and have shared stories of their own, and I’ve gotten to share my story as well. It’s been an unreal journey, and it’s all because I risked failing.
Okay, what I’m trying to say is you can do the same. You’ll be surprised that the reaction people usually have is “Wow! You did something!” not something judgemental. So, maybe it’s not blogging that you have wanted to try out, it really can be anything. Don’t be afraid of that first step! If my dreams can come true, so can yours!
And as far as the future of rachelfrom.com goes, I’m never going to stop dreaming or chasing those dreams, so I am anticipating only more exciting opportunities to grow, and share stories. Thanks for being patient with me as I balance life and school with blogging!
