Hey friends! How are you?!
Today I am excited to introduced a new type of post on rachelfrom.com! I’m calling it “Styled” because, frankly, I couldn’t think of anything more creative. But basically, it will be a series where I style a certain piece three different ways. If you have any more original names come to mind tell me and you’ll get a shout out. 🙂 Okay, now onto today’s post!
Let’s play a game. I’m going to say a word and you tell me what the first thing to pop into your head is. Okay, on the count of 3.
What did you think of? Avril Lavigne? Teen Angst? Other questionable things?
“Trending” probably didn’t come to mind. But actually they’re back in style, and they’re taking a new role in the world of style. Instead of pairing with other punk pieces, they’re being used to add edge to otherwise feminine/professional/casual outfits. I’ve been playing around with this trend for a couple weeks and I have received many compliments and inquiries. (Note: they are actually super comfortable to wear… at least 10x more comfortable than regular tights)
In today’s post you’ll see 3 different ways I have styled this trend. Every photo you’ll see was taken by my fabulous friend Adrianna Matthies (@adriannamatthies on Instagram…link below). The glasses I am wearing are also hers, actually funny story…we have a really similar prescription, and that’s good news for me because Adri has dope taste in glasses.
I hope you enjoy the looks I came up with, and if not, at least stick around and appreciate Adri’s skills.
Full disclosure: some people HATE this trend, and I know that. It isn’t for everyone, but if you’re game to try something a little fun, this might be the trend for you!
Look #1 Risky Business
This look is probably the most wearable of all 3. Blending sneakers, fishnets, and a button up, is maybe a little odd to some. I, however, think it’s a fun fusion of casual and business. I’m NOT a button-up kind of girl, but I would definitely wear this to get coffee with a friend, to class, or out shopping. It was 10/10 comfortable and the fishnets are super subtle, so if you’re wanting to try this trend in a minimal way this is the look for you!
Sneaks: Adidas Superstars
Look #2: Flirty Fishnets
This look is sassy…but then again, so am I. I am a wee bit obsessed with the t-shirt/slip dress trend. It’s so 90’s and so flirty. Wearing it with fishnets amps up the nostaglia factor up a few notches. It’s not extremely wearable, but to be honest, most of things I wear aren’t traditionally “wearable”. I would wear this look out to dinner with my friends most likely. It definitely feels more like an evening look to me, but hey, clothes know no clocks so do whatcha want.
Slip dress: Maccs the Label
White T: Value Village
Booties: Joe Fresh
This look exposes a lot of the fishnets, but it’s still modest and wearable. I would easily wear this to school, to dinner, shopping… you name it. It’s pretty 90’s because of the tights, corduroy skirt, and choker… maybe that tickles your fancy or maybe you hate it. Nevertheless, I personally am digging this look!
Leather Jacket: Billabong
Choker: Brandy Melville
Corduroy Skirt: Value Village
Sneaks/Tee listed above
